Seeing that this is a fundamental problem for so many people, we decided to talk to Winston Deloney, a successful entrepreneur, about how he starts his day in a way that allows him to maintain momentum all throughout.
For those who don’t recognize the name, Winston Deloney is a Chicago-based real estate investor who has been investing in real estate since he was 27 years of age. Despite the hectic nature of the real estate industry, Winston has consistently attained success and has now made a name for himself in that space. In this interview, he discussed how his morning routine plays an important role in his constant productivity.
Hello Winston, please share with us what your regular day looks like
As a real estate investor, while there are some fundamental activities I engage in every day, my day is not really set on stone. Unlike a regular 9-5 job that has a fixed schedule of work, my day in real estate investing is determined by a lot of variable factors.
For instance, some periods can particularly be hectic such as when I undertake a great number of projects or have to do a lot of building remodeling within a short span.
Other times, I simply spend my day scouting for promising deals and closing all sorts of transactions. I do all of these while keeping an eye on my properties as well as the state of my finances.
Wow, that sounds hectic. How are you able to maintain your productivity?
There are a couple of things I do to keep myself productive. I try to assign timelines to tasks when I can and stick to those timelines. Also, I cannot overemphasize the importance of taking short breaks amidst draining activities. Working at a stretch is never good for one’s productivity.
The most important thing for me however is my morning routine as that sets the tone for my entire day.
So, what is your morning routine like?
My morning routine is a very critical part of my day, so I have taken time out to ensure it is perfect for me. First, I will state that my morning routine starts from the night before, since, how well you sleep could determine how refreshed you feel when you wake up. So even though I wake up early, I strive to get adequate hours of sleep.
When I wake up in the morning, one important thing I do is to exercise while also scanning through my schedule for the most important and urgent tasks. Furthermore, I eat healthy every morning.
I pay attention to my breakfast and ensure it is as nourishing as it can be. Finally, I prefer to shift my most important tasks to the morning for better productivity.
How has this routine affected your day?
For the most part, it has helped with increasing my productivity exponentially. Also, with this morning routine, I tend to be less drained throughout the day. I am also more enthusiastic about my day while being refreshed and energized, thanks to this routine.

I would say that everyone must understand enough not to underplay the importance of a good morning routine. This especially applies to professionals who have to deal with physically and mentally draining tasks, since, a good morning routine can help you get through your day better.
